STORIES OF GREED

Union leaders are squandering millions on high priced restaurants, hotel room service and needless “business trips”:

JOHN WILHELM,
President/Hospitality Industry

President John Wilhelm is focused on himself, not UNITE HERE members. He funds locals and campaigns that increase his power and financial control. He even uses his power to help “organizers” invade your personal privacy.

KARL LECHOW,
Vice President

Vice President Karl Lechow charged the union over $45,000 per year for food. That’s more than the average union member gets paid in a year! And in September of 2008, he took 15 of his friends to dinner and billed the union $2,395. Learn more:

NICK WORHAUG,
Canada Director

Canada Director Nick Worhaug is getting rich by wasting our dues dollars. He takes a $283,780 salary, but spent another $134,000 in member dues on airfare, $120,000 on hotels and room service and $20,000 on cell phone calls. Learn more:

Under their leadership, local unions have failed in their most basic obligations to members:

DISASTER AT LOCAL 11

The leaders at Local 11 are sending their organizers all over the country in an attempt to consolidate their own power. Meanwhile, Local 11’s dues-paying members are completely neglected. It’s just one example of mismanagement under union President John Wilhelm and his closest advisors. Learn more:

IT HAPPENED IN DETROIT

In Detroit, Wilhelm hand-picked local presidents that most members never even heard of and didn’t vote for. Then he salted different divisions with Las Vegas “organizers” and favored stewards. The result has been heartbreak for exploited workers and failed organizing campaigns that cost us all millions. Learn more:

GAMING INDUSTRY NEGLECT

The casinos are empty and so are the union offices. With the gaming industry in distress, culinary and casino workers need their union more than ever to protect their jobs, benefits and working conditions. But your organizers are off in Detroit, Phoenix and Pennsylvania focused on union infighting, instead of you.
